Chemistry Week One

www.chemicalelements.com

This is a great web site (and I love that it was an 8th grader's science fair project!).
I appreciate the charts including various bits of information about each element.
It makes it easier to create an intellectual connection with each element.
For instance, the melting point of carbon is 3500c and it exists in a hexagonal crystal structure while oxygen has a melting point of -218.4c and cubic crystal structure. It was also interesting to see the date of discovery. The earliest one I could find was cobalt, discovered in 1737.

I like this web site because it breaks down the basics. While the one above provides interesting factoids this
one explains basic terms as well as a few interesting facts (like who developed the periodic table and how). It also has
an interesting article on how some elements got named (of course there's politics involved!). Again, this one is geared
toward a younger audience which makes it perfect for those of us coming back to chemistry after many years hiatus!
